Canaletto and the Splendour of Venice
2025.2.15(Sat) 〜 4.13(Sun)
Canaletto (1697-1768) is a master of veduta. This exhibition presents his oil paintings, prints, sketches, and other works, drawn primarily from the British collection provided by the National Gallery of Scotland and others. Through Canaletto's elaborate and magnificent depiction of the city of Venice, the exhibition presents not only the establishment of the genre of view painting in the eighteenth century, but also the works of nineteenth-century painters who inherited Canaletto's tradition and pioneered the new image of Venice.
