MATSUNOO TAISHA: Guardian Shrine of Western Kyoto

The first-ever exhibition of the sacred treasures of the Matsunoo-taisha Shrine in Nishikyo-ward, Kyoto. The shrine is venerated not only by many parishioners in the city, but also by sake brewers nationwide as the deity of sake and brewing. The exhibition features many historical materials related to the festivals, the history as the deity of sake, and the culture around sake, including deity figures that are among the oldest deity sculptures and designated as important cultural properties, as well as the first public exhibition of medieval documents of Minamoto no Yoritomo and Oda Nobunaga.
