The Museum of Kyoto (a.k.a. “BUNPAKU”) is a comprehensive cultural institution that provides an intelligible introduction to the history and culture of Kyoto. It presents occasional exhibitions of excellent works of art and crafts related to the city in the General Exhibition Hall, as well as a variety of featured exhibitions in the Special Exhibition Hall. In addition, the Film Theatre on the 3rd floor provides a comfortable environment for the sequential screenings of movie masterpieces from the Kyoto Prefectural Collection. Moreover, the institution offers a variety of sights to check out, including the Annex Hall (the former Bank of Japan, Kyoto Branch), a representative of the historic modern building designated as an important cultural asset, and the Roji Tempo, a selection of specialty shops housed in the recreated lattice-work townscape of traditional Kyoto.
